Preparing for an Adventure

The Basics About the Trip

Ladies, you spoke… and we listened.
Introducing Heartwork Adventures!

Our very first Heartwork Adventure will take place in the heart of the Blackhills of South Dakota inside of Custer State Park. The trip will begin on Thursday afternoon, May 16th and end on Monday morning, May 20th. The trip will feature both seasoned and fresh voices speaking to the core issues of every woman’s life, taking a whole-body, wholehearted approach to each topic. If you long to become the woman God created you to be, or if you’re just sure there’s more to this thing called Life but haven’t a clue where to begin, this trip is for you. Come and join us as we bask in the beauty of the Black Hills on our day hikes, lean into the heart of Jesus with a mug of coffee in moments of quiet, experience intimate times of worship around the campfire, and devour delicious food to fuel our bodies and feed our souls. Over the course of this incredible weekend, we’ll have awesome conversations, definitely share some laughs, and maybe even shed a few tears as we link arms and join hearts in this journey of the mind, body, and soul called Heartwork.

Important Additional Info

This section is designed to give you the proper information in order to be prepared to make the most of your Adventure. There are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Check-in starts at 3:00pm on Thursday, May 16th and, for those who would like to stay as late as possible, check-out is no later than 11:00am on Monday, May 20th.
  • The average high in Custer, SD during May is 62 degrees Fahrenheit (great for hiking), with an average low of 39 degrees Fahrenheit (great for campfires). May is also the month that Custer gets more precipitation than any other month in the year, so please pack weather-appropriate clothing.
  • Custer State Park is a fee area. The cost of entering the park is NOT covered in your registration. A 7-day park permit is $20/vehicle. We strongly encourage carpooling - so make sure you bring some friends!
  • Each registrant/group attending is responsible for their own transportation to and from our Custer State Park meeting place. We strongly encourage carpooling to reduce trip costs for all those involved.
  • Once at the Park, there will be brief times of traveling to get to some of our Adventure locations. We will need registrants to volunteer to drive their vehicles in a manner that is best conducive to carpooling.

Physical Recommendations

+

The Black Hills Adventure features two days of moderate hiking. While Heartwork always pledges to maintain a safe trailside environment, we also acknowledge that keeping a steady hiking pace is most advantageous for the group as a whole. Because of this we ask that all participants undergo the necessary training prior to the Adventure.

While our goal is not to exclude women from participating in our Adventures, for the sake of group dynamics and the respect of your fellow Adventurers, we strongly encourage each participant to spend at least 10 consecutive minutes walking briskly on an inclined surface prior to making the decision to register. This sort of exercise should serve as a strong litmus test as to whether you are ready for the hikes that are featured on our Adventures.

Although we are not licensed medical professionals, we reserve the right to ask you not to participate if we feel that your health is at risk.
