Your Accommodations

+

We will be basing our Big Horn Mountain Adventure out of Porcupine Campgrounds in the Big Horn National Forest. Although campground registration costs will be covered for this Adventure, you will need to provide your own tent. As the time for the Adventure draws nearer, we will communicate with registrants to ensure that everyone has adequate tent lodging.

Also... please note that the Porcupine Campground is primative. While potable water and vault toilets are available at the camp, there are no running water or shower facilities. There is a nearby creek that can be used for washing up.

Important Additional Info

+

This section is designed to give you the proper information in order to be prepared to make the most of your Adventure. There are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Check in starts at 2:30pm on Thursday, June 25th and, for those who would like to stay as late as possible, check-out is no later than 12:00pm on Monday, June 29th.
  • The average high in the Big Horn Mountains during our trip is 70 degrees Fahrenheit (great for hiking), with an average low of 40 degrees Fahrenheit (great for campfires). June in the Big Horn's will bring the possibility of an occassional rain shower. Please utilize this information to pack weather-appropriate clothing and bedding. You will need WARM clothes and bedding for the evenings!
  • We will be eating our supper together on Sunday evening at Bear Lodge in Burgess Junction. The cost of this meal is NOT covered in the registration costs. Estimated cost of this meal is $20 - $25.
  • Porcupine Campground is a National Forest Service fee area. The cost of the campground IS COVERED in your registration.
  • Tents are NOT provided. As the time for the Adventure draws nearer, we will communicate with registrants and organize tent groupings for the Adventure to ensure that everyone has adequate tent lodging.
  • Each registrant/group attending is responsible for their own transportation to and from our Porcupine Campground meeting place. We strongly encourage carpooling to reduce trip costs for all those involved.
  • After your arrival, there will be brief times of traveling to get to some of our Adventure locations. We will need registrants to volunteer to drive their vehicles in a manner that is best conducive to carpooling.

Physical Recommendations

This is VERY important. The Big Horn Mountain Adventure features two days of strenuous hiking. We will spend the majority of our time above 9000ft. Our first day's Adventure features 1500ft of elevation gain (to a final elevation of 9500ft). While Man Up Adventures always pledges to maintain a safe trailside environment, we also acknowledge that keeping a steady hiking pace is most advantageous for the group as a whole. Because of this we ask that all participants undergo the necessary training prior to the Adventure.

While our goal is not to exclude men from participating in our Adventures, for the sake of group dynamics and the respect of your fellow Adventurers, we strongly encourage each participant to honestly evaluate their level of physical fitness prior to registering.

Although we are not licensed medical professionals, we reserve the right to ask you not to participate if we feel that your health is at risk.

Because every Adventure needs a Guide*

Your Big Horn Mountains Adventure Guides*

Let's not kid ourselves, we know that when it comes to the adventure of manhood, God is the greatest guide. There's no greater adventure than the journey towards the discovery of the man inside. God's formation of great leaders frequently led them outside - into the wilderness. Moses found himself and his God on the backside of nowhere. It was the God-ordained wilderness experience that inaugurated a young David into an influential king. Even Jesus launched his ministry immediately after a time in the wilderness. The bottom line: The wilderness makes you Man Up. As your Adventure Guides*, let us lead you into the wilderness on a similar journey into authentic Biblical manhood.
